2026 Global Journalism and Communication Master’s Program on The Belt and Road Initiative - Program Description

1. What is the Global Journalism and Communication Master’s Program on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRJC)?

The BRJC Program is a two-year professional master’s program delivered entirely in English. It is designed to cultivate communication professionals equipped with international perspectives, proficiency in multimedia reporting and storytelling, and a commitment to enhancing cross-cultural and cross-country mutual understanding.

Launched in 2017 by the School of Journalism and Communication at Renmin University of China, the "Belt and Road" Global Journalism and Communication Master’s Program (taught in English) has achieved remarkable progress to date. As of June 2025, the program has enrolled 22 students in total and awarded 13 master’s degrees, with participating students highly rating the teaching quality and training outcomes.

In the first academic year, students focus on coursework and hands-on reporting practice. The second year centers on social practice or media internships, alongside completing a master’s thesis on practical topics. The program offers diverse social practice opportunities: not only do professional journalists and editors from the news industry deliver courses, but students also gain access to internship and visit opportunities at mainstream media outlets and leading internet companies.

Studying in the Global Journalism and Communication Master’s Program at Renmin University of China has been a transformative experience that has fostered both my intellectual growth and practical skills. Adapting to a new environment inevitably brings challenges, but the openness of both the faculty and fellow students made me feel welcome from the very beginning.

Through this program, I have enhanced my writing abilities across various media and journalistic styles, while building a solid foundation in media theory and global communication. Engaging in content analysis, narrative development, and communication strategy design has deepened my understanding of how media shapes reality and influences audiences.

One of the program’s greatest strengths is the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals who integrate academic expertise with practical insights in media and communications. Their perspectives breathe life into theoretical knowledge, making it relevant and applicable.

I am truly grateful to be part of this community. The relationships I have built and the skills I have acquired here will have a lasting impact—not only on my professional career but also on my personal life.
