In the afternoon of 28th December 2017, the Center for Academic Degrees and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education announced the results of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation. Journalism and Communication Studies of Renmin University of China was rated A+ in this evaluation.
The fourth round of evaluation was carried out in the scope of 95 first-level disciplines in 2016 (excluding 16 disciplines such as military studies) and a total of 7,449 disciplines in 513 colleges and universities participated in this evaluation. According to the principle of “accurate calculation and sub-file presentation”, the results were published in 9 files based on the overall assessment of the involved disciplines. Among the first-level disciplines of journalism and communication science, there were 17 colleges and universities that have “doctoral authorization” in the country and all of them participated in the assessment. Some colleges with “master's degree authorization” also participated. All together 81 colleges and universities were included in the evaluation process.
In this round of subject assessment, nine first-level disciplines such as theoretical economics, applied economics, law, sociology, Marxist theory, journalism, statistics, business administration, and public administration of Renmin University of China were rated A+.
School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China was founded in 1955. It was the milestone of the Communist Party's founding of a regular high-level journalism education. Over the past 60 years, it has become the landmark of journalism and communication education in China. At present, Renmin University of China has two national key disciplines in journalism and communications, and is a key research base of the Ministry of Education of the People's University of China. In the previous national first-level assessments organized by the Ministry of Education, the Journalism and Communication Studies of Renmin University of China also ranked first.
In September 2017, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission issued the "Circular on Announcement of the List of World-Class Universities and First-Class Disciplines for the Construction of Universities and Disciplines," and announced the construction of world-class universities and first-rate disciplines ("double first-class"). Journalism and communication studies of Renmin University of China was included in the first-rate constructive discipline.
For a long time, the journalism and communication studies of Renmin University of China has maintained a leading domestic level, and has a certain degree of international influence. It has done deep research in the field of journalism from Marxism view, ideology, journalism and communication history, basic theory, journalism practice, convergence media practice, big data and public opinion analysis, experiment and teaching, etc. The School of Journalism and communication of Renmin University of China has trained more than 10,000 graduates so far and has provided a large number of key talents for the journalism and communication industry.
