Professor Sun Yusheng, former deputy director of CCTV and executive vice president and editor-in-chief of Phoenix TV, recently published a collection edition of his book Ten Years: From the Beginning of Changing the Voice of Television (hereinafter referred to as Ten Years). The book records the spectacular practices and changes in the history of Chinese television since 1993. It recalls the back stories of famous TV news programs such as Oriental Time and Space, Focus Interview, News Investigation and Truth To Tell, as well as the behind-the-scenes process of major events and theme reports, and integrates a large number of explorations, summaries and reflections on theories and practices related to TV news.
From radio and television to audiovisual communication, behind the conceptual changes are the drastic changes that the academia is undergoing. How to understand audio-visual communication in the new era? How to grasp the construction of audio-visual communication discipline in the new era? On the publication of the book, School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China held the 35th In-depth Research conference on innovation of Academic Discourse System of Journalism and Communication on April 28, 2021.

Li yan
Li Yan expressed welcome and thanks to the guests attending the meeting. He pointed out that Ten Years contains a deep reflection on the properties of media. In his opinion, despite the development and progress of the society, the essential goal of journalists has not changed, and the spirit of exploring a way out and making unremitting innovation in changing and unchanged situation is the common point of publishing and TV work.
He added that Ten Years is characterized by authenticity and rationality, documenting the challenges behind television innovation, and is in some ways a "foundational work" that prompts deep thinking about markets, people and the time. In combination with the theme keyword of the conference, he also put forward his thoughts on related industries: change is to conform to the development of the time, persistence is to adhere to the value of the heart, and transcendence is to find a new way of development -- which is inspired by the book.

Zang Yongqing
Zang Yongqing, on behalf of the people's Literature Publishing House, one of the sponsors of the seminar, extended a warm welcome to the participants. In addition, he also pointed out that although Professor Sun Yusheng's intention in writing Ten Years was not to write a historical work, he often linked the founding process of the program with the social situation at that time, presenting a vivid "ten years history of Chinese journalism" to some extent.

Zhou Yong
Zhou Yong, on behalf of the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China, one of the organizers of the conference, expressed his gratitude to all the distinguished guests for coming. In his opinion, the book Ten Years records the golden decade in the history of China's broadcasting and television industry, and also in the history of the development of the world's broadcasting and television industry.
He pointed out that in the development of world broadcasting history, the communication pattern has changed dramatically, which brings unprecedented pressure to practitioners and also presents new development opportunities. Therefore, the theme of this conference was "Change, Persistence and Transcendence". Ten Years is not only the record of a period of history, but also the accumulation of experience of a generation of TV producer. In this changeable moment, we need to change, but also need to adhere to our goal and surpass ourselves.

Author of Ten Years (collection edition)
Sun Yusheng
Sun Yusheng said that he had made up his mind to republish Ten Years with only one intention, that is, to respond to propositions such as how to improve the communication, leadership, influence and credibility of mainstream media in the context of media convergence, and how to tell Chinese stories well. He believes that the republication of the book can provide some valuable references to industry practice from a methodological perspective.
In addition, he was honored that the organizers linked the discipline construction of audiovisual communication with the book. He believed that the cultivation of audiovisual communication students should focus on improving the five abilities: the ability of continuous reporting, the ability of editing thinking, the ability of multi-channel communication, the ability of active innovation and the ability of effective management. "Reporting power determines communication power, and communication power determines influence". In his opinion, the ability of continuous reporting is one of the core abilities that can test the professional level of practitioners and news organizations, and should also become the top priority in cultivating talents in the discipline. He expects that university education can cultivate more outstanding students with such potential.
