On the afternoon of Dec. 29, Renmin University of China held the 2021 Student Award Ceremony. Party Secretary Zhang Donggang, President Liu Wei, Vice Presidents Gu Tao and Hu Baijing, Honorary First Professor Guo Zhan and Yuan Wei attended the ceremony and presented awards to the representatives of the winning students. A number of outstanding students from the School of Journalism and Communication received honorary awards such as Baogang Outstanding Student Award, Jingdong Special Scholarship and National Scholarship.

Zhang Donggang congratulated the students for their progress and achievements in all aspects, and paid tribute to the teachers who worked so hard and devotedly to educate people.

Zhang Donggang put forward four requirements to the students.

Firstly, be a "young man with aspiration" with strong beliefs. As the first new type of formal university founded by the Communist Party of China, it is the red gene of Renmin University of China that we always share the same fate with the Party and the country. As outstanding students of Renmin University, students should inherit the red gene, cultivate family-country sentiment, constantly strengthen your faith in Marxism, belief in socialism with Chinese characteristics, and confidence in realizing the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and integrate your "small self" into the "big self" of the motherland and the "big self" of the people, practice the new era of the university's patriotic aspirations as well as serve the country.

The second is to cultivate your moral character and be a "virtuous youth" with good conduct. For the students who are in the "plucking and gestation period", you should inherit and carry forward the good virtues of their predecessors, take the core values of socialism as the fundamental guidelines for their own life, to be fearful, to speak with caution, to conduct with bottom line, to moisten their bodies with virtue, to be kind with public virtue, to cast their souls with great virtue, and to effectively build a spiritual line of defense.

Thirdly, to study for truth, to do a good quality "talented youth". I hope you fully cherish the precious time in the university, take learning as a responsibility, a mission, a pursuit, a way of life, with a sense of responsibility, a sense of urgency, seizing the time to learn knowledge, not only read the word book in the classroom, but also read the "wordless book" of society, the theoretical basis of the discipline and professional knowledge internalized in the heart. Theoretical foundation and professional knowledge in the discipline internalized in the heart, hard work, seek real learning, and effectively enhance the ability to serve our motherland and the dedication to the people.

Fourthly, unite knowledge and action, be a "promising youth" who is brave enough to take up important responsibilities. If we compare the Chinese Dream of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation to a relay run, then students are the closest to the finish line, the most critical sprint baton. I hope you can learn from the role models around you, grasp the time and trend of historical development, combine the "world affairs" and "youthfulness", and combine the "big era" and "small coordinates". Combine "small coordinates", always keep the courage to take up the role of "whoever is left behind", set up the direction of sharing the worries for the party, doing one's duty for the country and serving the people, constantly advance in the forefront of the new era, and let youth glow brilliantly in the struggle.

Zhang Donggang stressed that today's award ceremony is a high affirmation of the students' excellent achievements in the past year, and it is also an incentive and encouragement for them to continue to pursue their studies and work in the future. I hope that the honored students will cherish the honor, know the responsibility in their hearts, take responsibility in their bodies, and fulfill the responsibility in their actions. I hope that all students will see the virtues of the school, learn from the example, do the standard, learn from each other and catch up, write a colorful chapter in their lives on the road of catching up with the examination "please rest assured that the Party is strong and the country has me", and welcome the victory of the 20th Party Congress with excellent study and practice results.

Liu Wei read out the list of students' awards for 2021, including national scholarship, national inspirational scholarship, special scholarship, academic scholarship, service and contribution scholarship, arts and sports scholarship, honorary title of the merit students, competition and evaluation support award, development support award, honorary title of top ten class groups, honorary title of model class groups, honorary title of advanced class groups, honorary title of civilized dormitories, etc.

Liu Wei pointed out that he hoped that the students and groups who won the awards would cherish the honor, make further efforts, remember the school motto of "seeking truth from facts", never forget the original intention in the future study and work, answer the question of the times with struggle, and show the sentiment and responsibility as a member of Renmin University students with practical actions. He emphasized that all students should learn from the outstanding students and advanced groups who were awarded, integrate their personal "small self" into the national "big self", always advance in the forefront of the times, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Gu Tao and Hu Baijing presented awards to 8 students who won the Baogang Outstanding Student Award and Jingdong Special Scholarship.

Guo Zhan and Yuan Wei presented awards to the representatives of 10 students who won the National Scholarship for Undergraduates, National Inspirational Scholarship for Undergraduates and National Scholarship for Postgraduates.

The school office and other unit leaders presented awards to the representatives of students who won the Scholarship for Academic Excellence, Scholarship for Academic Progress, Scholarship for Outstanding Student Cadres, Scholarship for Social Work and Volunteerism, Scholarship for Outstanding Club Backbone, Scholarship for Cultural and Sports Excellence, Honorary Title of Top Ten Classes, Honorary Title of Top Ten Dormitories, National Defense Scholarship, Honorary Title of Merit Students, etc. Nearly 400 people from the School of Journalism received the above awards.

Students of the School of Journalism gained a lot from this student award ceremony. The honor is to move forward better. The previous journey is full of stars, and now we return with a full load; the next journey will be more courageous and continue to cultivate. We will continue to work hard and be the journalists from Renmin University who are worthy of the times, and strive to be the young people of the new era who are ambitious, virtuous, talented and productive!
