A symposium for student volunteers of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games was held at School of Journalism and Communication, Renmin University of China, in the afternoon of Sep. 29, which nearly one hundred students attended either online or offline. On behalf of SJC, executive dean Zhou Yong, Party secretary Zhang Huifeng, vice dean Han Xiaoning, vice Party secretary Sun Quan, and vice dean Li Biao expressed gratefulness and encouragement to those students who are about to shoulder responsibilities as volunteers of Beijing Winter Olympic Games. Relevant information like safeguard measures was introduced and the needs and advice from students were also heard.
Through Tencent Meeting, Zhang encouraged students involved in volunteer works to actively contribute to the successful opening of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games and pay close attention to self-prevention from COVID-19. Zhang also expressed a sincere wish for them to devotedly put themselves to society’s service and make progress towards a full-grown person.
Sun introduced the overall arrangements of the volunteer program to the students. School of Journalism and Communication, whose number of participants ranks highest in the whole university, will provide all kinds of services to students participating in the Winter Olympic Games and solve their difficulties in their study and daily life.
Han and Li gave instructions on the academic activities of the undergraduates and postgraduates who participate in the major projects of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and said that the Educational Affairs Department of the school would provide the best coordination in support of the students.
Zhou, on behalf of SJC, showed strong determination in terms of providing good logistic service to the students and made a spirit-arousing speech. He said: “Participating in the volunteer work of Beijing Winter Olympic Games is not only an opportunity to closely get involved in the world-class sports event but also a good chance for journalism students to carry out professional practice.” He hopes that students will cherish the opportunity to improve their professional skills, their ability of cross-cultural communication and coordination as well.
During the discussion session, students expressed their needs and put forward suggestions on online courses, graduation thesis, internship, and employment issues. Zhou hopes that the students would be well prepared for their future studies, psychological challenges, and daily life. He also said that SJC would do its best to provide material and mental support for the students.
