The first batch of graduates (1959) of the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China returned to school to celebrate the 60th anniversary of graduation on October 11.

Alumni chatted at the faculty development Center of the Journalism school, reminiscing and talking about school life. Alumnus Yang Chungui, Ge Wujue and Cheng Lijia also wrote calligraphy to express their gratitude to their teachers.

Zhou Yong, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Journalism extended a warm welcome to the alumni. He introduced the construction and development of the school to the alumni, and introduced the new campus of Renmin University of China in Tongzhou under construction, as well as the preliminary construction plan of the building facilities of the School of Journalism.

Fang Hanqi, the 93-year-old Honorary Level I Professor of Renmin University of China, who was a teacher of the alumni said he was glad to see the first graduates return home and reminisce about lessons and life in school. Prof. Fang reminded of his stay with students in Baoding, Hebei and talked about some anecdotes. In addition, he said that it was very rare and valuable for alumni to organize such an event after 60 years of their graduation and he believed that the alumni could recall more memories in the event.

Wang Song, an 88-year-old alumnus, who was the deputy director of CCTV Business Department expressed his gratitude to the school for the arrangement and organization of the 60th anniversary event. He mentioned that what the teachers taught benefited him for life.

"No matter where I go, I will always remember and appreciate the teachers of Peking University and Renmin University of China and thank the CPC and the country for training us," said Yang Chungui who received four years of professional journalism education at Peking University and RUC and continued his studies in the Philosophy school of RUC.

Zhao Yuming said that 13 graduates of this class were assigned to Beijing Broadcasting Institute (now Communication University of China) and participated in the establishment of the Department of Radio, Film and Television Journalism of Beijing Broadcasting Institute, making important contributions to the journalism education and development of Beijing Broadcasting Institute. He suggested that alumni who have devoted their lives to journalism education should be recorded in the history of the Journalism and communication school of RUC.

Liu Xiayang, former secretary of CPC Party committee of the J-school, said that next year will be the 65th anniversary of the school's establishment, and he hoped that all of Alumni would come back to the school to meet again.

At the end of the meeting, Hu Baijing, Executive Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, said that it was a great event for the first batch of graduates to return to school on the 60th anniversary of graduation. "We assure you that those excellent qualities and strengths of Yenching University, Peking University and Renmin University of China are still with us. We are also promoting the research on history of Journalism. We will record the narrations of predecessors and keep them as oral history, so as to further improve the relevant historical materials of the J-school of RUC", said Hu Baijing.
