Akaki Gvimradze, Chief Editor of Resonance from Georgia visited the School of Journalism and Communication, Renmin University of China(RUC), on September 25th, 2018. Zhang Huifeng, Deputy Dean of J-School, met with Gvimradze and his entourage. Professor Zhao Yonghua attended the meeting, along with some doctoral and postgraduate students of the School.

Deputy Dean of J-School, Professor Zhanghuifeng, expressed a warm welcome to Gvimradze and briefly introuduced the School on its history, faculties and departments. Professor Zhang Huifeng said that the school attached great importance to the exchange activities between the school and the countries and regions along the Belt and Road. So far the School has conducted extensively cooperation with related universities, he added.

The editor-in-chief introduced the basic information about Resonance, the present status of the media industry in Georgia and its future developing direction. He believed that there was a broad development potential space for media cooperation between the two countries, although people in both countries have limited understanding of each other at present. Gvimradze advocated the establishment of the Sino-Georgia Union of Journalists in order to promote mutual understanding and bilateral confidence.

Gvimradze, with the on-site teachers and students went on further discussions on topics such as the way how traditional media operate in the age of new media, the social responsibility of the media, news talent training mode, Georgia’s external communication concept and practice, media cooperation under the background of the Belt and Road and so on. 

Founded in 1990, Resonance was originally published in Russian once a week. It was not until 1992 that the newspaper’s official language was changed into Georgian with three-times release each week. Ultimately Resonance has become daily newspaper since 1995. Currently, as one of the most influential newspapers, the circulation of Resonance has ranked third in Georgia and the media has always maintained close cooperation with the Chinese Embassy.
