As the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China announced the filing and approval results of undergraduate majors in colleges and universities in 2020, the International Journalism and Communication major of the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China was selected into the list of newly registered undergraduate majors.

At the same time, the school of journalism and communication of RUC applied for removing the undergraduate major of editing and publishing, and it was approved by the Ministry of Education.

In recent years, The School of Journalism and Communication RUC is building a cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural talent training model. The International Journalism and Communication undergraduate major is an important part of the college's integrated international journalism and communication talent training system, which features an all-English curriculum and aims to cultivate international journalism and communication talents with a firm China position and a broad global vision.

Since 2009, SJC has successively offered a master’s program in international journalism and communication, an experimental class in journalism-international politics, the “Belt and Road” global journalism and communication program in English, and a doctoral program in international communication.
