In the afternoon of November 29th, the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China held the 2017 Undergraduate Talent Training Working Conference to introduce the undergraduate talent training course for the "Double World-classes” construction of the journalism and communication discipline of Renmin University of China. At the same time, the conference commended teachers and students who made prominent achievements in teaching and professional practice.
Hu Baijing, the Executive Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication; Deputy Dean Zhou Yong, Zhang Huifeng, Wang Runze and Deputy Party Secretary Zhao Yunze attended the meeting. Staff and undergraduate students of the entire college attended the conference as well. The conference was chaired by Meng Bin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Journalism.
Executive Dean Hu Baijing addressed on the subject of “undergraduates, capabilities, and obligations” and explained the planning for undergraduate talent training from three aspects, including reconfigure internally and expand externally, strengthen foundation and frontier application, and build up Chinese characteristics and world-class. Internally, the school will break professional barriers and turn to the “interest-expertise” and “project-task” training mechanisms, and advocate self-selection, teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, and all-round development; externally, the school will make continuous efforts to achieve cross-border, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural development. The School of Journalism and Communication is committed to cultivating talented students with the sense of mission, responsibility, intelligence, the sense of beauty, overall understanding and judgment, professional ideals and aspirations and outstanding professional skills. Besides, by ways of practical and experimental course updates, workshops, alumni communities and the co-construction with the news industry, help students apply what they’ve learned and give them the ability to analyze China's issues and develop a global perspective.
Deputy Dean Zhang Huifeng gave an overall introduction to the teaching and working system of the Undergraduate School of Journalism and Communication, He specifically explained the core curriculum and innovative plans of curriculum of characteristic of the journalism and communication discipline which are under implementation. He encouraged students to actively express their opinions and suggestions for the cultivation of undergraduate talents and participate in the development of the school and the discipline construction.
Associate Professor Han Xiaoning introduced the academic top-notch talent training program for the journalism and communication discipline. He hoped that students with academic ideals could make specific considerations and plan well. As a successive undergraduate-postgraduate-doctoral program, the program will hold the first public interview on December 8th, 2017.
In 2017, the students of the School of Journalism and Communication received multiple awards in various academic competitions and social practices such as the National College Students Contest of Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Works, Entrepreneurial Plan Competition, Data News Competition, Advertising Art Competition, and Public Relations Planning Competition. At the conference, achievements of teaching and the second classroom construction of the this year were presented, and awards were presented to students who won awards in the competition of cross-media works held this year.
In the various evaluations for undergraduate teaching conducted in 2017, dozens of teachers in the School of Journalism and Communication were commended. Student representatives presented flowers to their teachers to express their blessings and thanks.
The conference also conferred the "Mingxin Excellence Teaching Award", which is set up for the first time by the college, to Wang Yigao, a young teacher who was welcomed by the students. Since his appointment, professor Wang Yigao has long over-achieved the task of teaching. He is always at top in teaching assessment in the school and has continued to promote the innovation of teaching content and teaching methods. Also, he is always ready to interact with teachers and students and connects theory with practice. He loves students, loves classrooms, and devotes himself to teaching. When his family was undergoing major changes and his personal health was not good, he maintained a warm heart and involved in the whole process of his students' growth, guiding the construction of the second class and “three class”. His class was included in the " Top 10 Model Classes of Beijing". He performed his obligations dutifully and diligently. He took on loads of public affairs in the development of the school and the discipline construction. Professor Wang Yigao said that he would cherish honors and continue to work hard to make contributions to education.
