The 2020 graduation ceremony of J-School was held on the Plaza of Mingde Journalism Building on June 23, 9 am, which was marked by the utilization of online video conferencing system as to offer live scenes, becoming J-School’s first graduation ceremony held on the Cloud.

 

Professor Wang Liming, executive vice president of RUC, Fang Hanqi, honorary first grade professor of RUC, together with the representatives of J-School staff and at-school students including 23 graduates and volunteers attended the ceremony. A total of almost 300 teachers, students and their relatives also engaged in the ceremony and live broadcast at the same time.  

Firstly, all of the teachers and students observed a minute of silence for the martyrs and compatriots who sacrificed in the fight against COVID-19.

At the ceremony, executive vice president Wang Liming sent greetings to the teachers, students and relatives both online and off-line. Being moved by the striving spirit of graduates in COVID-19 outbreak period, Wang Liming used the keywords of "touch" "hope" and "blessing" to wish everyone could blossom their glorious life in the process of realizing the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation. He hoped everyone to be dedicated into the development of society, people and the mankind with their excellent performance.

"Congratulations to all of you, this is a milestone in your life,” said Professor Zhao Qizheng, dean of J-School. Based on the current international situation and China's present development context, he hope that graduates can pay more attention to public opinion environment in the Internet age, and try to increase knowledge, wisdom and social experience, so as to be more good at thinking, expressing and practicing, which could benefit the creation of own destiny.

Professor Wang Runze, vice dean of J-School, read out the decision of awarding doctor's, master's and bachelor's degrees. So far, 501 students in J-School have received degrees this year, among which 26 have received doctor's degrees, 297 have received master's degrees and 178 have received bachelor's degrees.

Professors from J-School took on the stage and offered degrees to 23 at-scene graduates of the 2020.

Professor Zhang Huifeng, deputy dean of J-School, announced the decision to honor outstanding graduates of 2020. Sixteen students of J-School were awarded outstanding graduates of Beijing, 28 were awarded outstanding graduates of RUC, 33 were awarded outstanding graduates of J-School, and 21 were awarded outstanding graduates of the School of Journalism. The teacher representatives present the certificate to the outstanding graduates on the spot.

In order to express sincere gratitude to the four-year education offered by J-School, the 2016 graduates of the National Defense Journalism Class sent a calligraphy work as a gift which named Iron Shoulder, painted by Liu Xiaofeng, a graduate of the National Defense Class.

Zhang Yiran, a graduate of the 2016 Undergraduate who majored in broadcasting and television, delivered a speech on behalf of all the graduates of J-School. She expressed her wishes to J-school and looked back on her study life. She expressed her respect and gratitude to the teachers, students and relatives, and hoped that she could use what she had learned in the school to always be advanced.

Mr. Fang Hanqi, honorary first-grade professor of RUC, said in his note that he had attended the graduation ceremony for decades, with hundreds of people attending each time. "This year's pattern is the first in history," but he also believed that such a graduation ceremony held during the hard time should be celebrated. He wished the graduates to do their jobs well in the new stages and do their best in journalism and communication.

 

Professor Guo Qingguang, director of the academic committee of J-School, congratulated the class of 2020 on their graduation. He hoped that students could carry forward the spirit in fighting against COVID-19,and reach a new peak in the their pursuit of profession and academy.

Professor Hu Baijing, executive dean of J-School, expressed the hope to the graduates that they could get closed to the reality and truth with their ambition, knowledge and ability, and try their best to promote interaction, solidarity and cooperation.

The graduation ceremony was hosted by Professor Zhou Yong, the secretary of the party committee and vice dean of J-School. After the ceremony, teachers and students took photos to record the special graduation ceremony and graduation season.
