Commentary is an important part of traditional news practice. Recently, Lv Xing, an undergraduate from the SJC, won the November Monthly Championship of the 6 th National College Student "Commentary Star" Selection Competition of Red Net and the title of "Monthly Star", with the work Banning 4G for promoting 5G: isn’t technology upgrade an excuse for compelling. Chen Shurui, another undergraduate, won the title of "Monthly Star"of October with the article Don't kidnap the future of Li Xueqin with the degree of Peking University.
Relying on the commentary class offered by the school, the students took active part in the commentary writing practice, and won relevant awards for many times. In addition to Lv Xing and Chen Shurui, on December 18, 2020, Wu Haiqing won the champion of the 7th National College Student Commentary Competition; Yue Yongjie, won the final champion and monthly champion of the 4th National College Student "Commentary Star" Selection Competition of Red Net and Yan Shiyu, won the monthly champion of the same competition. According to statistics, in the autumn semester of the 2020-2021 school year, more than 40 comments written by nearly 20 students have been published on the portals of mainstream media in China and WeChat official account, including Xinhua Daily Telegraph and China Youth Daily. Besides, the commentary page of News Weekly, a campus media guided by the SJC, also provides practical opportunities for everyone. Freshmen and sophomores can gain some experience before having the commentary class, so that the class could play a better role in guiding.

Lv Xing believes that the writing of is a process of thinking and dialoguing. Writer is the first beneficiary in the writing of commentary as they can avoid the "emotional trap" of most people and gradually master the habit of rational thinking, as mentioned Lv. At the same time, with the increase of the publication of comments, Lv saw the value of publicity of comments. He described himself as "explosive", which "blasts the sluice letting out the flood of thinking." "Comments can make problems be seen and discussed, which is what I care about." Lv said.

Different from Lv Xing, who stick to the commentary writing for a long time, having the commentary class was Wu Haiqing’s first time that she started to learn commentary systematically, in the last year of the undergraduate.
She participated in the 7th College Student Commentary Competition and entered the final with the work concerning Shanghai "socialites". Some sessions in the final required players to express and exchange their opinions on the given topics, which impressed Wu Haiqing a lot: "our points of view can be spread by speaking, which is a kind of communication and a collision of different ideas."
