        Daniel C. Hallin, Professor in Communication School in University of California, San Diego, USA held a lecture on “News Professionalism Based on Comparative Perspective ” in J-School on January 15,2017.

        The lecture discussed development of news professionalism from comparative perspective and investigated the history of news professionalism in western countries and different forms. It also put forward some questions including how news professionalism develops in other social backgrounds.

        Professor Hallin views journalism as an occupation needless of special professional  training or authorization.  News professionalism includes autonomy, consensus about morality and practice standards, consciousness of public service, etc. The reflection of news professionalism is the change from Libertarian Theory to social Responsibility Theory.

        Professor Yang Baojun, Zhang Huifeng and Zhao Yonghua, Associate Professor Chen Yang, Zhou Jun and Wang Bin and Foreign Affairs Secretary Zhao Jin in J-School, attended this lecture. Also attending were Professor Zhan Jiang from BFSU and students and teachers from Renmin University, Peking University and Communication University of China.
