Conference on professor Fang Hanqi’s journalism history research was held at Renmin University Culture Block to celebrate his 65th Anniversary of Teaching on December 17, 2016. The event was cohosted by the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China, China Society for Journalism History and Peking University institute of Journalism.
Professor Fang Hanqi emphasized the importance of history studies in his address. In his view, journalists are the watchers of the society and scholars of journalism history are the watchers of journalism. Looking back on his 65-year teaching career, Professor Fang expressed his respect to precursors, his thankfulness to colleagues, as well as his encouragement to journalism students. He also expressed his honor of studying journalism history.
An exhibition was held in the hall of university library, showing thesis, notes, news coverage and awards about Professor Fang Hanqi. A whiteboard was also set for visitors to write comments and blessings to the professor.
In the meeting room 611, Mingde Journalism Building, participants witnessed the establishment of “Hanqi Yuan” (Hanqi Meeting Room).
Professor Wang Liming, Executive Vice President of RUC, Professor Guo Qingguang, Executive Dean of J-School, Professor Hu Baijing, Zhou Jun Yang Baojun, Meng Bin and Zhang Huifeng, deputy deans of J-School Participated. The conference also attracted over 80 teachers and students from a dozen of different universities around China.
