The 2021 degree conferment and graduation ceremony of the School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) of Renmin University of China (RUC)was held in Mingde Hall on the morning of June 17, with the presence of Professor Hu Baijing, Vice President of RUC, all faculty of SJC and the graduates of the class of 2021. The ceremony was simultaneously broadcast live online, with nearly 200 friends and relatives of the graduates participating in it. A group photo of graduates was taken and a red-carpet commemorative activity named "Mingxin Memory" was also held on the same day.

The degree conferment and graduation ceremony of the SJC of Renmin University of China kicked off accompanied by solemn national anthem.

Amidst warm applause, the present mentors of SJC greeted the graduates, their family and friends who were watching the ceremony online.

Professor Hu Baijing, Vice President of Renmin University of China, delivered a speech in which he congratulated 425 graduates on behalf of the university and raised several expectations for them: to live up to the times and the people; to have ideals and follow the path; to improve abilities and to make a difference.

Professor Wang Runze, Vice Dean of SJC, read out the Decision on Awarding Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's Degrees: 30 graduates were awarded the degree of Doctor of Letters, 240 were awarded the Master's Degree and 155 were awarded the Bachelor's Degree.

Accompanied by the sacred and solemn music, the professors present at the ceremony conferred degrees and turned the tassel for each undergraduate and master graduate.

In the graduation ceremony, Associate Professor Han Xiaoning, Vice Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication honored 14 excellent graduates of Beijing, 24 excellent graduates of the university, 30 excellent graduates of the college, and 14 graduates who volunteered to work in the west and at the grassroots level.

Shu Kai Rong, a doctoral student of the class of 2017, who will become a researcher after graduation, spoke on behalf of all graduates. He said that during his time in the SJC, he found what he would like to contribute to for the rest of his life. He added that it was a joyful thing to be able to explore and improve himself in the field that he was interested. He expected that the graduates would continue to move forward with the expectations of the college and their teachers, friends and family, and would bring the unique temperament fostered by SJC of Renmin University of China to the world. Finally, he shared with the audience a quote given to him by his mentor, Professor Liu Hailong: "The student days are over and you are formally stepping into the society. Be honest with yourself and others. Don't care about fame or fortune. Don't forget the original intention. Then everything will bloom slowly."

Professor Li Biao, vice dean of SJC, presented a notebook inscribed by Mr. Fang Hanqi, honorary first-class professor of Renmin University of China, to Shu Kai Rong.

Professor Gao Guiwu, director of the Faculty of Audiovisual Communication of the School of Journalism and Communication, spoke on behalf of all the teachers. He said that as a "veteran" who had been studying and working in the school for decades, the greatest influence of SJC on him was the spirit and quality that had been handed down from generation to generation by the teachers of the school. He summarized this spirit into four sentences as a farewell advice to graduates: Firstly, know how to persevere. The only way to obtain real achievements is to be patient with loneliness. Secondly, know how to give. The teachers of SJC have taught us that only those who know how to devote themselves can eventually win respect and climb higher as well as go further. Thirdly, know how to be inclusive. The remarkable achievements of SJC precisely attribute to the tradition of inclusiveness of this university. Fourthly, know how to be humble. Gao hoped that students would not be complacent because of some little achievements. On the contrary, they should always learn from all the advanced with a humble heart.

Professor Zhou Yong, the executive dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, gave a farewell speech to the graduates. He said that SJC of Renmin University of China was made up of the persistence and inheritance of all of the teachers and students. Zhou said that the teachers and students here have valuable quality, ambitious ideals and the spirit of being down-to-earth. For the graduating class of 2021, Zhou Yong expected: First, do one thing well. Going out of campus means facing complicated choices in the society, so he hoped that the students could stick to the original intention and take responsibility. Second, keep the bottom line. Journalism is a witness to the times, and journalists are faced with various temptations. Living a good life is the theme of a lifetime. It’s common that there are high peeks and low valleys in one’s career, but the quality of life depends on whether the heart is abundant. He wished all of the graduates a happy life and a promising future.

At the end of the ceremony, in a flag-awarding ceremony for the branch of the School of Journalism and Communication of the Alumni Association of Renmin University of China, Dean Zhou Yong awarded the flag to the grade director of the 2021-class graduates of SJC.

During the free talk after the ceremony, a number of graduates actively went to the podium to express their gratitude to the college and their teachers, their reluctance to leave their friends and youth, or their good wishes for the future.
