Five Pakistani journalists concluded their year-long exchange program at the journalism school with a graduation ceremony in the Ming De building on June 13.

Professor Cai Wen congratulated the journalists on their accomplishments and thanked all those involved in the exchange program, which she called meaningful.

“During their visit, the five journalists gained a deep understanding of China and the Chinese media industry,” Cai said. “They made a number of Chinese friends, had close interactions with professors and students in the journalism school, and forged great friendships with them.”

“We hope the Pakistani journalists can further develop their passion for the journalism school and RUC, as well as help promote cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani media, and enhance mutual understanding among people from the two countries,” Cai said.

Asif-ur-Rehman Khan of the Pakistani embassy in Beijing praised the journalism school for organizing the exchange program. He expressed his wish that it continue. “I think this visiting project played a big role in enhancing mutual understanding between people and media of the two countries. The Pakistan-China friendship is even stronger than before.”

Li Zhenshi, deputy director of RUC’s international office, said that RUC would continue to support the program in order to contribute to the consolidation of friendship between the two peoples.

Lu Ke, Associate Professor at RUC’s Institute of History and Theory of the Chinese Communist Party, praised the Pakistani reporters’ active participation in class and their progress in learning Chinese.

Saadullah, a producer with Pakistani state television and a participant in the exchange program, said that through a series of lectures and visits he had accumulated a large amount of knowledge about China. “I feel very satisfied. I am deeply impressed by China’s development. As a Pakistani, I am very proud of the China-Pakistan friendship.”

Professor Zhong Xin, who presided over the exchange program, said to the Pakistani journalists: “You guys viewed China from unique perspectives. You made a lot of new discoveries and showed the observational abilities of qualified journalists. You made friends with all kinds of Chinese, using WeChat to maintain frequent contact with them.”

Wu Kai, a student and the personal assistant of the Pakistanis during their stay on campus, said he gained a lot from the experience: “Not only friendship with five Pakistani journalists, but also a refreshed understanding of Pakistan and the Islamic world. The reporters were a group of lovely and friendly partners. They came to China to sow the seeds of friendship. In Chongqing, Sichuan, Hebei and Hubei, their favorite thing [to do] was to chat with Chinese people and take photos to record every beautiful moment.”

The five Pakistan journalists are Rub Nawaz, senior reporter of Associated Press of Pakistan, Saadullah, producer of PTV News, Rana Umair Qaidir from Pakistan Today, Minhas Justin from Daily Times, and Imran Ali from INP News Agency.

Over the past nine months they attended regular courses and also participated in activities specially designed for them, such as Chinese history lectures, cultural experiences, as well as internships in Chinese media. They visited universities and institutions in Beijing, Hebei, Hubei, Sichuan, Chongqing and other provinces and cities.
