Ice and snow stories build dreams for the future | The School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China and the School of Journalism and Communication of Hebei University jointly held a symposium on the theme of the Winter Olympics

On the afternoon of April 27, in order to learn and implement the spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics, which is "having the big picture in mind, being confident and open, facing difficulties, pursuing excellence and creating the future together," the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China (RUC) and the School of Journalism and Communication of Hebei University (HBU) jointly held a symposium on the theme of "Ice and Snow Stories, Building a Dream of the Future - Propagating the Spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics." Zhang Huifeng (Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Journalism and Communication of RUC), Sun Quan (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee), Yan Yan (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee), Yan Shiyi (Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Journalism and Communication of HBU), Han Lixin (President), Wang Tingting (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President), and Shang Jianhui (Vice President), participated in the event with nearly 100 Winter Olympic volunteers from two universities.

Zhang Huifeng first delivered a speech. Zhang Huifeng reviewed the experience of friendly communication between the School of Journalism andCommunication of RUC and the School of Journalism and Communication of HBU and said that the symposium jointly held by the two academies will further deepen the development of friendly relations between the two academies, promote the communication between teachers and students of the two academies, and jointly promote and implement the spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Yan Shiyi said that the spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics is the precious spiritual wealth of the Chinese nation, and the style of the youth volunteers from the two colleges reflects the vigorous image of China's youth in the new era. He hoped that the students and teachers of the two schools would deepen their friendship through this activity, deepen their understanding of the spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics in communication, and become the communicators of the Winter Olympics culture and practitioners of the Winter Olympics spirit.

Volunteers from two colleges shared their own experiences.

Wu Xiwen, from the School of Journalism and Communication at Renmin University of China, shared his interesting experience of exchanging pins with other volunteers, athletes and journalists. Wang Mengdan, who served in the main media center, told her story of helping to prepare for the press conference, which showed her growth from nervousness and apprehension to ease handling the situation. Aggolli Maman shared his excitement when he performed the lion dance at the opening ceremony.

Zhang Huina, from the School of Journalism and Communication at Hebei University, shared her deep friendship with Maltese volunteers during her service. Wang Qi told her interesting stories about her friendly interaction with foreigners at the registration center of Zhangjiakou Winter Olympic Village. Wang Ruigang shared his understanding of the spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics based on his volunteer teaching experience.

As an urban volunteer from the School of Journalism and Communication at RUC, Zhang Runxue showed the enthusiastic image of the “little oranges” who are most closely connected with the public. During the serve of the Winter Olympics, Zhang Qiyun, who worked for the Zhangjiakou News Center deeply felt that “small posts” also have “great patterns”, and every “screw” is unique and indispensable.

Li Ruoqing from the School of Journalism and Communication of Hebei University shared her experience of founding the Youth Pioneer Team of the Winter Olympics and her journey as a “volunteer of volunteer”. Chao Bo, who worked as a photography assistant during the Winter Olympics, learned the professional spirit of journalism through contacts with journalists at home and abroad, and strengthened his yearning for a journalism career.

Han Lixin concluded his speech by telling the story of Deng Xiaoping’s emphasis on the development of mass sports. He raised new expectations for the journalism students and wished students of both houses to take the spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics as their inspiration to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Yan Yan expressed her gratitude for the wonderful sharing brought by the volunteers. She believed that the Winter Olympics experience is a unique feeling experienced by each volunteer personally and will live on in the memory. Besides, she hoped that the students would carry the memories of the Winter Olympics with them and be firm practitioners of the the Beijing Winter Olympics spirit.
