The interdisciplinary symposium named "Argument, Journalism and Communication" jointly sponsored by SJC of Renmin University of China and Institute of Logic and Cognition of Sun Yat-sen University was successfully held in Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou on December 19 and 20, 2020. More than 30 experts and scholars from journalism, communication and logic attended the conference.

Ju Shier, director of the Institute of Logic and Cognition of Sun Yat-sen University, delivered the speech at the opening ceremony, welcoming teachers and students from both disciplines. Lin Shengdong, professor from Renmin University of China, supposed that the symposium may be the first small-scale and in-depth dialogue between journalism, communication and logic in China. Each subject has its own basic assumptions and beliefs, and such deep dialogue could help to cultivate interdisciplinary talents.

A total of 13 experts presented their research at the symposium, and each had 30-40 minutes including questioning. In addition, it was specially arranged a round-table dialogue session in which all participants could speak freely. The conference enhanced mutual understanding between the two disciplines and brought together scholars who are interested in this interdisciplinary field. Finally it was concluded in a relaxing atmosphere.

Strengthening interdiscipline is an important way for the rapid development of disciplines in the future, and will also contribute to academic self-reliance for China. At the closing ceremony, Professor Lin mentioned that all the participants are expected to continue to attend the second "Argument, Journalism and Communication" Symposium which will be held in Beijing next year.
