The School of Journalism and Communication established the Department of International Journalism and Communication as its fifth department on Oct. 13th. This is a new step taken by SJC to integrate resources on teaching, research and public service in the field of international communication.

“By providing courses all delivered in English, this program aims to educate students with the ability to write English news articles, produce live TV and radio news programs, as well as engage in multi-media reporting activities.” said Zhou Yong, Executive Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China.

Furthermore, this program targets to provide the most promising minds with comprehensive knowledge ranging from journalism and communication to international relations, economics and laws so that students can understand the complexity, interconnectedness, and depth of global issues in front of the new generation.

“Nearly 20 full-time and part-time faculties joined the newly-built department. SJC is looking forward to recruiting more excellent faculties to build a greater teaching and research team.” Zhou Yong said.

At the inauguration ceremony, SJC also signed cooperation agreements with China International Publishing Group (CIPG) and Hainan Daily Press Group, building close relationships with the industry so as to provide more job opportunities for SJC graduates.

Together with the MA program in International Journalism and Communication and Ph.D. program in International Journalism, the establishment of the new department of IJC for undergraduates marks a well-established education system in the field of international journalism and communication.

“SJC has begun to develop its education system of international journalism and communication since 1990s.” said Zhou Yong.

For undergraduates, the joint honor program of “Journalism-International Politics” has been set up for over 10 years. For graduates, the MA program in IJC for Chinese students was set up in 2010 and the Global Journalism and Communication MA Program on Belt Road Initiative for international students began in 2017. SJC also cooperated with CIPG on a doctoral program in international communication. End
