Meet-and-greet For Joint Cultivation PhD Program In International Communication Held By RUC and CICG

The meet-and-greet between teachers and students of Renmin University of China(RUC) and China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration(CICG) for the joint cultivation of Ph.D. candidates in international communication was held at the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies on January 7, 2022, with Yu Yunquan (President of ACCWS), Yang Ping (Party Secretary and VP of ACCWS), Ding Zhitao (Associate managing editor of Foreign Languages Press), Wang Mei (Editorial Director of International Communications) and Prof. Zhong Xin, Zhao Yonghua, Li Qin of RUC attending.

President Yu expressed his hope of strengthening mutual communication, cooperation and complement to jointly serve the cause of international communication and national talent developing strategy, and introduced the research and practical resources that the ACCWS can provide. Besides, Yang, Ding and Wang, who served as the first batch of cooperative mentors, voiced their support for the program, wishing students to integrate theory with practice.

Enhancing the cooperation and exchange of both sides to improve PhD students’ social responsibility and sense of mission in international communication was Prof. Zhong’s point wish, while Prof. Zhao and Prof. Li expressed their hope of collaboration in the database and case database to build a platform for students in research to promote their academic ability.

The mentors from both sides conducted in-depth discussions on jointly training interdisciplinary international communication talents, sharing data resources, gathering research results and cases, cooperating on projects, and building practice bases by utilizing their advantages. They also shared ideas on the disciplinary construction of higher education, the practice of international communication, and the cooperation of resource sharing.

Dou Shuqi, Zhao Jiaqi, Jiang Xiancheng, Liu Ruhao and Wang Jingkai attended the meeting as the first batch of joint cultivation PhD candidates. Jiang Xiancheng said that the precious chance of view exchanging had drawn him to a concrete perception of the international communication career and that he was willing to participate more in the research tasks and practical activities of the CICG in the future. Zhao Jiaqi said he learned the glorious history and the significance of the CICG on our country’s journey of external communication and saw a vivid practice of comprehensive communication institutions in the front line of international communication. Liu Ruhao said that this meeting had enlightened her with more clear understanding of the road to take and the researcher to be during the doctoral period. Dou Shuqi said that she gained a deeper view of the history and prospects of our country's external communication and that she was looking forward to the following cooperation with the CICG.

In April 2021, RUC and CICG officially signed the International Communication Talent Training and Academic Research Cooperation Agreement which was launched in October 2021, as Yang Ping (Party Secretary and VP of ACCWS), Ding Zhitao (Associate managing editor of Foreign Languages Press), Wang Mei (Editorial Director of International Communications) were appointed by the School of Journalism and Communication at RUC as co-supervisors who will work with the on-campus supervisors to supervise PhD students in international communication.

Attaching great importance to the cultivation of international communication talents for a long time, the School of Journalism and Communication established the Department of International Journalism and Communication in October 2021 and build the integrated international communication talent training system with the International Journalism and Communication undergraduate major which features an all-English curriculum, the master’s program in international journalism and communication, the “Belt and Road” global journalism and communication program in English, and a doctoral program in international communication.
