Expert asks questions.

Wang Yihong, researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said “I am very happy to see that the students have such a great enthusiasm for research. I sincerely congratulate all the students for they are changing their state from absorbing knowledge to innovating knowledge, and entering their own research fields to explore problems. Every research displayed today shows a good tendency, that is, to pay attention to the problem of human survival from the perspective of Journalism and Communications research. As the basic question of philosophy, ‘survival’ is more important than ‘existence’. ‘Survival’ asks us to pay more attention to the environment we are in, and to actively connect ourselves to the world. However, the shortcoming of applicants lies in the lack of explanatory power of the basic theory and concept. You are not clear enough when expounding the research problem, so you must cultivate your ability to refine the core of the problem.”

Zhang Yuqiang, Professor from the Communication University of China, said “Although your preparation seems a little rushed compared with the first selection of the program for top-notch academic talent cultivation, since the framework, theoretical paradigm, and basic methods are not completely clear, most of the problems are valuable and can show your unique problem awareness. There are many research questions related to the Internet this year, reflecting students’ thinking characteristics as aboriginals of the Internet. In addition, the research questions cover a more comprehensive range, and it should be the mirror of comprehensive education of the School of Journalism, Renmin University of China. I suggest students to pay attention to the standardization of public theory expressions, behind which are the problem of theory faithful. We must systematically observe the soil in which the theories develop.”

In order to promote more outstanding doctoral students to engage in high-level scientific research and innovative research, School of Journalism and Communications of RUC launched the program for top-notch academic talent cultivation in 2017.

The selected students will gain academic tutors and platform support from the School of Journalism and Communications and will receive a certain amount of research funding each year.

In last year selection of the program for top-notch academic talent cultivation, 13 of the 18 candidates were selected, including two fourth-year undergraduates, three second-year masters students, three first-year Ph.D. students, and five second-year Ph.D. students. Among them, four second-year Ph.D. students were selected in the university-level program.
