TASS Director General Kondrashov and his delegation visited the School of Journalism at Renmin University of China (RUC) for a symposium with faculty and students

On the afternoon of August 30, 2025, Andrey Kondrashov, Director General of TASS Russian News Agency, led a delegation to visit our school. The delegation included Marat Abulkhatin, Deputy Director General; Yaroslav Kurilo, Consultant with the International Relations Department; Alyona Potapkina, Head of International Media Relations at the Department of International Communications; and Ivan Kargapoltsev, Head of the TASS Beijing Bureau. During the visit, the delegation held discussions with faculty members and students on topics including international communication and journalism education.

Professor Zhang Huifeng, Party Secretary of the School of Journalism; Professor Xu Xiangdong, Chair of the Department of Journalism; Professor Zhao Yonghua, Party Branch Secretary of the Department of International Journalism and Communication; and Professor Deng Shaogen, Director of the Research Center for Marxist Journalism at Renmin University of China, attended the event. The symposium was chaired by Professor Zhao Yonghua. Zhao Jin, Secretary for International Affairs of the School of Journalism, Zhou Qilin from the Experimental Center, as well as a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students, participated in the discussion.

The delegation began their visit at the School of Journalism’s Document Center.

Faculty hosts introduced the guests to a collection of 1950s Russian-language textbooks, books donated by international and domestic scholars, the school’s proprietary digital journalism databases, and various historical artifacts.

Kondrashov’s team then toured the multimedia “smart” classrooms, broadcast studios, and the master control room. In the smart classrooms, faculty demonstrated a self-developed public opinion analysis system and showcased the use of multi-camera filming equipment.

The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion in Conference Room 611.

The delegation held an in-depth exchange with faculty and students of the School of Journalism and Communication regarding the current international public-opinion landscape and journalism education. Discussions also focused on ensuring news authenticity and navigating the challenges of intelligent communication technologies and media operations. The delegation emphasized the vital role of communication and cooperation in journalism, expressing a commitment to strengthening ties and expanding partnerships with Chinese media organizations and journalism schools.
