The Department of Journalism focuses on providing professional courses. The courses News Editing and Opinion Writing have received national and local awards for excellence. In 2008 the faculty was honored with the title ‘Beijing’s Outstanding Teachers.’ Courses the department offers include: News Writing; Opinion Writing; Media Convergence.

Department of Communication

Department of Communication

The Department of Communication educates students to become accomplished professionals who possess a sense of social responsibility, and are knowledgeable of communication theories and methods. The curriculum is geared towards guiding students towards mastering media convergence. They are also stimulated to creatively solve practical problems to meet the demands of the media, governments, companies, and other organizations. The faculty has produced influential research on new media, visual communication, public communication and cultural industries.

Department of Broadcasting

Department of Broadcasting

The Department of Broadcasting cultivates students to become broadcasting professionals, including editors and reporters, as well as researchers for the radio and television industry. In over twenty years the department has graduated nearly a thousand students, many of whom now work in China’s national, provincial or local broadcasting industries. The curriculum has three components. Students acquire basic production skills, for example in the course Audio & Video Production. Students reflect on and practice skills of broadcast reporting and editing in courses such as Radio News Reporting and TV News Reporting. Students also intensively study and research the development of the radio and television industries and the laws pertaining to broadcasting.

Department of Advertising and Media Economics

The Department of Advertising and Media Economics cultivates multi-faceted professionals by stressing both the development of practical skills and the ability to perform research for the media industry. Graduates will be familiar with media management and administration, and will be well equipped to work in the media industry or teach and do research at institutes and universities. Courses the Department offers include: Introduction to Advertising; Advertisement Planning; Media Management & Administration; Media Market Analysis.

Department of Media History and Theory

The Department of Media History and Theory offers courses on journalism history, communication research methods, journalism ethics and law, and other topics. The faculty produces relevant academic research, and teaches the core courses History of Journalism & Mass Communication; Journalism Theory; Communication Research Methods; Journalism Ethics and Law.
